Projects Location

Where is Woods Point, Victoria and how do I get there?

Woods Point is on the main road between Marysville and Mansfield. It's around halfway (10kms) between the hamlets of Matlock and Gaffney's Creek. Morning Star's tenements cover much of the area between these towns to the west of the dividing range and northwards. The Thomson River Dam is to the southeast of Matlock, which places MCO's tenement area out of the direct Melbourne water (Yarra Valley) catchment area. The drive through Matlock and Woods Point is very scenic and steep in parts ranging from around 1,200 metres above sea-level along the ranges and 500-600 metres in the valleys (such as Woods Point). Care should be taken in the winter months especially as some of the route is above the usual snowline. The drive in to Woods Point from the north via Mansfield, Howqua and Jamieson is flatter and easier but will take longer on average from Melbourne and there is still a fair bit of driving off the tar on gravel-dirt logging roads. The presence of logging trucks means great care has to be taken from both directions but especially via Marysville and Matlock.
