Morning Star Gold (ASX: MCO) - We are Australia's newest east coast gold producer aiming to increase production over 2012-14. Historic gold production from our 200km2 tenements was from known high grade ore bodies on the Lachlan Fold Belt just 120kms east of Melbourne. We aim to grow our resource inventory via development of multiple resource targets in the Woods Point - Walhalla Goldfield (Australia's 3rd largest hardrock field in ounces) - where historic gold production is a recorded 6-7Mozs Au (150-200T) at grades ranging 8 - 40g/t from mostly shallow lodes. Gold is typically hosted in quartz reefs in fractured mafic & gabbroic dyke structures.
Mining and production has commenced at our 100% owned Morning Star Goldmine, where underground levels to 310 metres depth have been re-developed. We have rebuilt all site production & milling infrastructure in order to commence production from the Morning Star and surrounding mines.
In the 1940's, the Morning Star Goldmine was Australia's premier gold mine run by WMC. Production up until 1962 was 883Kozs at 25g/t. The first gold rushes to Woods Point were 150 years ago so it's fitting that production should return on the Woods Point sesquicentenary.
